The Aikido Foundation

Aikido Foundation

The Foundation was established in 1993 to spread the teachings of Morihei Ueshiba in Hungary. The main reason was to introduce Aikido to the people of Hungary, not only as a martial art but also as a great chance to lead a healthy and vital lifestyle.
The main goals of the Foundation are

  • to develop a healthier approach to one’s physical development,
  • to make Aikido as popular as any other martial arts and sports in the country,
  • to introduce and teach elements of Japanese culture through Aikido trainings, and to help one finding harmony with oneself, with each other, and with the universe,
  • to create awareness of the dangers of damaging habits such as drinking, smoking and drug addiction,
  • to secure funds in order to constantly improve the quality of teaching and instructing, through international seminars and courses.

The Headquarters of the Aikido Foundation is in Tata, Hungary, but there are several clubs in the country in Budapest, Komlo, Oroszlany, Veszprem, and also abroad in Komarno, Slovakia, and London, UK.

The bank account number of the Foundation is MKB:10300002 – 46500564 – 00003285.

Our Head Technical Instructor is Laszlo Elsner (5th dan Aikikai) who played a very important role in the early days of Aikido in our country. He was the first student of Michel Gollo (currently 6th dan Aikikai) with whom he has been spreading the teachings of this martial art as one of the first ambassadors in Eastern-Europe.

Our International Technical Advisor is Fujita Masatake shihan (8th dan Aikikai), who visits our country twice a year as the ambassador of Hombu. Through his teachings we can still witness a large fraction of the feeling of O’Sensei’s original art, as Fujita sensei used to be student of the Founder for more than a decade. In the presence of Fujita shihan our students can grade for the official Hombu Diploma of 1st dan and above, as well as they can become members of the Aikikai Foundation at Hombu, Tokyo, Japan.
